Salu (संल्हु) means the first day of the month in Nepal Bhasa whereas it is Sankranti (संक्रान्ति) in Sanskrit. It is also known as Ghyo Chaku (घ्यो चाकु संल्हु). This day is celebrated by eating Ghyo (purified butter), Chaku (molasses), Lakhamari (sweet coiled bread) and Hamo Gwara (sweet sesame ball).

घ्यो चाकु संल्हु या लसताय् सकल नेपामी पिन्त यक्को यक्को भिंतुना।

माघे संक्रान्तिको उपलक्ष्यमा सम्पूर्ण नेपाली जनताहरूमा खुसियाली छावस्।
